How many children are able to stay at HGS at one time?

HGS can serve up to 80 children at any given time.
Where do children stay at HGS?

HGS has 9 cottages where children live with a house parent. The boy's site has five cottages, and the girl's site has four. Children are placed into cottages based on their age.
How do children end up at HGS?

Children arrive at Home of the Good Shepherd because they were living in an unsafe environment.
How long do children stay at HGS?

Children stay at Home of the Good Shepherd until their home living situation has been deemed safe, or until another safe living environment is available (i.e. Aunt, Uncle, Grandparent)

Some children stay at HGS for weeks, months, or possibly years.

Questions About Child Sponsorship
How much does it cost to sponsor a child at HGS?

Children at HGS can be sponsored monthly in increments of $30. ($30/month to sponsor one child, $60/month to sponsor two children, etc.)
Can I select a sponsor child from a list or photograph?

For the safety of the children, HGS does not have individual pictures of children awaiting sponsorship.

Individuals interested in sponsoring a child may request a child of specific age / gender, and HGS staff will try to accommodate these requests if possible.
Can I send a toy or gift to the child I support monthly?

HGS is not able to accept toys or other gifts for individual children in keeping with fairness for others who may not receive extra gifts from their sponsor.

Letters or cards sent to sponsor children are encouraged.

Is my donation tax receiptable?

Yes - A tax deductible receipt is issued for donations of $20 or more.
I donated online through CanadaHelps. How do I receive my tax receipt?

If you donated online, you can view your tax receipt by logging into your account at canadahelps.org.

CanadaHelps charges a fee for every donation made online.

4% of the donation is charged for one time donations.

3.5% of the donation is charged for monthly donations.

Donors are receipted for the entire amount they choose to give.
